Planning Aluminium LED Profiles for Interior Projects

Define the Lighting Detail Before the Profile

An aluminium LED profile is one part of a larger lighting detail. Explain whether the intended location is a wall corner, a panel joint, furniture or a stair tread. The appearance of the illuminated line and access for maintenance should be discussed before choosing a section.

A profile photograph does not establish what electrical components are included. Separate the aluminium channel, cover and accessories from the LED strip, driver and other equipment. Ask for a clear supply list so that the buyer and lighting supplier are not assuming that the same items will be provided.

Check Internal Fit as Well as Overall Size

The overall width and height of a profile do not automatically describe the usable space for the LED strip. Ask which dimensions identify the internal channel, the cover and any fixing feature. A cross-section is the most practical way to compare these details.

Provide the proposed strip dimensions and relevant information from its supplier. Confirm compatibility for the selected profile rather than transferring a dimension from a different catalogue example. The lighting designer or supplier should review any required operating and thermal information for the complete system.

Agree the Cover and Desired Appearance

A diffuser or cover affects both the visible detail and how the light is perceived. Describe the intended appearance and ask which cover is supplied for the selected model. A photograph showing an illuminated sample can help the discussion, but does not replace a defined component reference.

Also confirm how the cover is retained and whether replacement components are available. Keep the approved channel and cover references together. If consistent appearance is important across several locations, agree a sample arrangement with the actual lighting components rather than comparing unrelated demonstration photographs.

Show the Installation and Maintenance Arrangement

Different applications need different installation details. A snap-on hidden profile at a panel joint is not the same detail as an external corner profile or a stair-lighting section. Show the surrounding materials, the proposed mounting position and the access needed after installation.

Ask which end pieces, fixing parts or other accessories are included. The project team should coordinate cable routes, access and the electrical components separately with the appropriate lighting professionals. This guide concerns profile procurement and does not provide electrical installation instructions.

Do Not Infer Ratings from Appearance

A metal channel and a diffuser should not be assumed to provide a particular ingress-protection, fire or electrical rating. If the project needs such a classification, request evidence for the specified assembly and ask the responsible project team to review it.

The same principle applies to performance descriptions in a quotation. Define what is being supplied and which information comes from the LED equipment supplier. Avoid treating a general product photograph or the material of the channel as proof of a complete lighting-system performance claim.

Prepare a Coordinated Profile Enquiry

List each lighting detail separately and connect it to the appropriate drawing. Record the profile, finish and cover references as one combination, then identify components that will be sourced separately. This gives purchasing and installation teams a shared description of the proposed assembly.

  • Application, section drawing and surrounding material detail.
  • LED strip fit information, cover reference and desired appearance.
  • Mounting, accessory and maintenance-access requirements.
  • Finish, lengths, quantities, packing and delivery destination.

Catalogue Examples

These are catalogue examples, not interchangeable specifications. Confirm dimensions, finish, supply scope and packing for the selected profile before ordering.
